Golubtsy Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 medium cabbage head
- 500g ground beef or a mixture of beef and pork
- 1 cup cooked rice
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Place the whole cabbage head in a large pot of boiling water. Cook for about 10 minutes or until the outer leaves become soft and pliable. Remove the cabbage from the water and let it cool.
- While the cabbage is cooling, heat the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté the onions and garlic until they become translucent.
- In a large bowl, combine the ground meat, cooked rice, sautéed onions and garlic, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all the ingredients are evenly incorporated.
- Peel off the cabbage leaves one by one, being careful not to tear them. Trim the thick center vein at the base of each leaf.
- Place a small portion of the meat and rice mixture onto each cabbage leaf and roll it up tightly, tucking in the sides as you go.
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Place the stuffed cabbage rolls in a baking dish.
- In a separate bowl, mix the tomato sauce and beef broth. Pour the mixture over the cabbage rolls, covering them entirely.
- Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for approximately 1 hour, or until the cabbage rolls are cooked through and tender.
- Remove from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes before serving. Serve with mashed potatoes, sour cream, or additional tomato sauce if desired.
